The shutdown of Megaupload this week was just another case of the Past trying to hold onto the past. And, by shutting the site down, the Past accomplished little more than proving it can’t fight the inevitable Future.
I mean, I get it. I get why the copyright holders want to hold onto their copyrights. There’s good money in them. And, we’re seeing the collapse of copyright-based business models every day. If I were them, I’d probably dig my claws deep into what was mine and fight the forces of copyright collapse with everything I had.
Except, that I don’t think that’s really what I would do. Instead, I would probably see the Big Picture in all of this and realize that it is time to seize the opportunity of the Future, and beat as many as I could to the punch. [click to continue…]
